Aneurysm screening takes approximately 15 minutes and is a specialized type of Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedure or MRI scan.

This offer is for the performance of the test, the reading of the results by Dr. Karl Hussman, a Yale-trained, Board Certified, Neuro Radiologist. Dr. Hussman's report will be made available to the patient as well as their physician along with digital, paper, or film copies of the resultant images.  Digital copies will include the software to view the images and will include all images takes of the brain.  Paper and film copies will only show the areas of importance since a scan such as this can include thousands of images.

Background Information: Brain aneurysm, also known as a cerebral or intracranial aneurysm, is an abnormal bulging outward of one of the arteries in the brain.

Aneurysms are defined as vascular disruptions of the brain and are a leading cause of death and disability.

Am I at Risk?
If a family member has had an aneurysm you have a higher probability of having one as well. Additionally, if you have severe unexplained headaches, unexplained dizziness, memory issues, or other neurological symptoms, you may consider this test.  We always recommend you speak to your physician about this procedure first as well. Undetected aneurysms not uncommon with about one in 15 Americans suffering from them.  According to a recent study, approximately 75% of all Aneurysms are never detected. You are at increased risk of an aneurysm if you have any of the following Risk Factors:
-Family History
-Hypertension
-Smoking
-Age ( if you are between 35-60 yrs old)
Women also have a higher risk as well

 Resolution matters in detecting small aneurysms
At Alpha 3T MRI we specialize in high definition brain imaging. No clinical scanner is better suited to detect aneurysms than a 3 Tesla scanner because the ability to detect aneurysms depends on the strength of the magnet. Because we have a 3 Tesla scanner, and most other scanners have weaker magnets e.g. 1.5 Tesla, or 0.35 Tesla for Open MRIs, we are among the best facilities in the country at identifying the smallest aneurysms visible using MRI.

What will my visit be like?
Your Aneurysm Screening will consist of a 15 minute MRI scan utilizing our Siemens 3T scanner. Only your head and shoulders need to be in the MRI unit.  We will play the music of your choice, we can even plug right into your iPod.  After the scan Dr. Hussman, a Board Certified NeuroRadiologist will review your images in depth and provide a report.  Images and reports will be sent to you and or your physician. 

If your scan reveals an aneurysm or other abnormality needing further evaluation, we will refer you to one of the Neurologists with whom we are affiliated. We will give you a CD with all your images for review on your PC or that of a clinician.


We don't want to scare you but even a tiny aneurysm is dangerous. If you have symptoms of concern, we suggest you get scanned. We see this often, but one story helps illustrate our point.  A patient of ours was having splitting headaches for years. After a quick scan with us we found the problem deep inside her brain.
