Dr. Frank Alberta is a native of Bergen County, New Jersey. He graduated from Paramus Catholic High School and obtained his bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude honors in Biology from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He attended the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, where he received his medical degree in 1997. Dr. Alberta completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
In 2002, Dr. Alberta was selected to continue his training at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. This sports medicine fellowship is consistently one of the most sought after positions in the country. During his training in L.A., Dr. Alberta participated in the care of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, Sparks, Kings, Galaxy, Avengers, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Los Angeles Mighty Ducks, collegiate teams included USC and Loyola Marymount University athletics.
Dr. Alberta has written several textbook chapters on subjects including advanced shoulder arthroscopy techniques and orthopaedic trauma. He has published numerous journal articles through research into shoulder and elbow biomechanics, throwing injuries in athletes, strength training, advances in surgical techniques, and foot injuries. His current research projects involve advances in the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder instability, evaluation of throwing athletes following shoulder arthroscopy, elbow biomechanics, and surgical outcomes in overhead athletes. His work was recently featured in a Video Journal of Orthopaedics teaching video. He has been featured on Fox News for the Fox and Friends morning show on topics such as Preventing Injuries in Teenage Athletes and Injuries in the Golden Age Athlete.
Dr. Alberta continues to share his expertise as a surgical instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and for Arthrex, Inc., the leading provider of arthroscopic and sports medicine instruments and implants. Dr. Alberta maintains privileges at Hackensack University Medical Center, The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and Metropolitan Surgical Center.
